God's
good and perfect will
Going a little father,
He fell with His face to the ground and prayed,
"My Father, if it is possible may this cup
be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you
will." - Matthew 26:39
Thy will be done…
a prayer that made Jesus what He was, is and is
to be. His earnest prayers and His submission to
the Father's will is what gave Him the strength
to lay down His life as a sacrifice for our sins.
It was the prayer that gave Jesus the power to heal
the sick, raise the dead, know the minds of people
before they could speak and cast away demons with
authority. Jesus said, "He who sent me is with
me. The Father has not left me alone, for I always
do the things that please Him." (John 8:19).
No matter what the time or place or situation Jesus
was in, He only cared about one thing - Thy will
be done.
St. Paul writing to the
Romans says, "…I pray that now at last
by God's will the way will be opened for me to come
to you." (Romans 1:10). St.
James writing to the twelve tribes says, "Instead
one ought to say, if it is the Lord's will, we will
live and do this or that." (James 4:15).
St. Peter says, "So then, those who suffer
according to God's will should commit themselves
to their faithful Creator and continue to do good."
(1 Peter 4:19). What is this God's
will?

There was once a man who traveled
far and wide, and was very learned in the things of the
world. He was wise, patient and very loving. This man
had a beautiful son and he loved him very much. When the
boy turned 10, he asked his father for a bicycle he had
seen on TV the week before. Due to the clever advertising,
the son really wanted the bicycle and it was the only
thing that could make him happy and satisfied. However,
the father knew more. He knew the truth behind the advertising
and that the bicycle was not as good as they say it is.
Because He was learned in the ways of metals, he knew
that the metal used in the bicycle was not good and it
would end up causing his son harm by breaking. Even so,
the father knew his son so well he had ordered a bicycle
from a distant place even before the son could ask him,
but it would only arrive three days after his son's birthday.
The son had no concept that
such a bicycle exists. He had no idea that it was even
possible to have such a thing. Even in his wildest imagination
he could not grasp the idea because he just did not know.
He could not even fathom the existence of the far away
land from where this bicycle was coming. His knowledge
was limited.
On the day of his birthday,
the son asked the dad for the bicycle. The dad told him
that it was not a good idea and that he has something
better in store for him and that he should trust him.
The kid kept asking the dad and he gave him the same answer.
Soon enough the boy got angry and resented his dad for
not getting his gift for him. The son questioned the fathers
love for him. He cursed him and walked away from him.
However, the father was kind,
patient and loving. He could not tell the kid about the
bicycle because the boy would not understand. His young
mind could not comprehend the concept. It is like explaining
to a young chicken inside the egg that there is a world
out there much larger than inside the egg. The chicken
would have no idea. It's like explaining to a blind man,
the color red. Until his eyes are open he cannot see it.
Until the kid saw the bicycle he could not understand.
But the father kept telling him to just trust him and
that he will be more that happy and satisfied. A kind
of Happiness that He never knew before.
The bicycle finally arrived.
The father took it to the son and gave it to him lovingly.
The son stood speechless looking at the bicycle. He was
extremely happy on one side and extremely sad on the other.
Happy because he got something exceedingly above all that
he ever expected. Sad because he did not trust his father
and was cruel to him. With eyes filled with tears, the
kid ran to the father and hugged him tightly and repeatedly
kept telling him that he loves him. He did not care about
the bicycle any more.
Such is God's will for us.
"Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's
good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (Luke
12:32). His will is far beyond our wildest imagination.
We can't even think of such things. He is pleased to give
us the kingdom of heaven. All of it! "He who did
not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all,
how shall He not along with Him also freely give us all
things?" (Romans 8:32). We have read the story of
the lady who was healed by just touching the hem of Jesus'
garment. (Mark 5:24 -34). His hem is
all we need for our lives to be whole. But God is pleased
to give us all of Jesus and everything along with Him.
We get the kingdom, the Son and everything else with it!
That beloved, is God will for you!
"Jesus said to them, My
food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to finish
His work." (John 4:34). Jesus called
the Father's will His food. Jesus breathed, talked, ate,
slept, dwelt in the Fathers will at all times. He was
completely submitted to the Father's will. God always
knew how, what, where, which and when to provide for Jesus.
There is not one situation in the Bible where Jesus is
not provided with much more than what He asks for! Not
one time where Jesus is worried about his needs. There
is absolutely no occasion where Jesus is not taken care
of by the Father! Not once! Why? Because Jesus said, "Yet
not as I will, but as you will."
We are needy people. We have
many wants, needs, desires, and thoughts about our lives.
We are constantly troubled by the things that we do not
have. How silly is it to do so when we can have it all.
His will for us is far greater and better for us than
anything we can ask or think or desire. If we would just
say to the Father as Jesus did, "Yet not as I will,
but as you will."
Jesus died for our sins in
accordance to the will of the Father. He resurrected according
to the will of the Father. You and I live in Christ today
only because it is in accordance with the will of the
Father. He has given us eternal salvation. He has saved
us from ourselves and the world around us. He has given
us a life that we never knew existed. Did you ever think
such salvation could ever be possible? Could you ever
conceive of something like it? But here it is on a silver
platter! If Jesus gave us this, how will He not give us
all things? How will He not give us food to eat, houses
to live, and families to love. He is pleased to give it
all to us, if only we would say, "Yet not as I will,
but as you will."
Believe in the Father who lovingly
gave up His only son for you. Trust in the Son Jesus who
graciously laid down His life for you. Have Faith in the
Holy Spirit who is affectionately with you always. Isn't
silly to be like the kid who doubted his Father just because
he could not comprehend? Isn't stupid of us to think that
we know better about what we need than God who created
us? "Do not be afraid; just believe." (Mark
5:36). He knows everything about you. Believe that no
matter what He "will never leave you, nor forsake
you." (Joshua 1:5).
God's will cannot be changed.
It cannot be altered. Submit to Him and He will always
keep you in His holy, perfect and good will. You cannot
miss out the things that he has intended for you. Never,
not once! He will reveal His will to you when you are
in communion with Him. The Holy Spirit will teach you
His will and help you obey it. Submit to the will of someone
who loves you so much. Seek his will for you daily! God's
will for you is power. God's will is life. God's will
is salvation! You will have the power to heal disease,
speak in new tongues, cast out demons, walk with God in
the heavenliness, stand in the very presence of God and
talk to Jesus face to face. It is a world you cannot even
image. His will is the only thing worth living for and
dying for! "He went away a second time and prayed.
My Father if it is not possible for this cup to be taken
away unless I drink it, May your will be done." (Matthew
26:42).
Let's Pray:
Loving heavenly Father,
I praise you and honor you. Thank you for the love you
have showered upon me though I am an unworthy sinner.
This fallacy of a world and the problems it causes deter
me away from you. God teach me your will and to walk accordingly.
I submit myself to you completely. I surrender my plans
and thoughts to you. Holy Spirit, help me walk with you
daily. I seek to do only the things that please you. In
times of fear and doubt, please help me to overcome and
be strong. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen!
